Uttarakhand battling one of the biggest and worst natural tragedy the suffered
a full catastrophe. Questions were raised whether a lot of destruction was done
by many human activities.
The undiscriminating increment of small hill towns where
apartments, hotels and buildings all are manner of unlawful interference that
takes place on the bank of rivers.
It was a tragedy waiting to happen. Since 2002 it is banned on the construction of 100 meters
from the river side bank.
But the focus on Uttarakhand government is unwillingness
to admit fragile environmental area "Eco Sensitive" and whether the
Uttarakhand government is concerned about the priority of the commercial
surroundings.
As on December
2012 the centre of 100 km along with the Bhagirathi River, Gangotri to
Uttarkashi is declared as one of the "Eco Sensitive Zone", which
meant that no development was allowed there.
But in May
2013 the Prime Minister met with Vijay Bahugana with his delegate ministers,
and forwarded him a letter, in which this notice is tühistatud.Chief Minister
claimed that the move was rejected by people who lived in this area, because it
would deny them the much needed development and infrastructure, and limits the
number of tourists, which would be a blow to the national economy. He also said
that the halt of construction affects the security of the region, which borders
China, is strategically important and is a vital way for the transportation of
military personnel and supplies. And it is not only the Congress which is
opposed to "Eco Sensitive 'zone. In 2011, the BJP Chief Minister Ramesh
Pokhriyal Nishant also written a letter Environment Minster, oppose any motion
to declare "Eco Sensitive Zone". Riigikogu, covering the political
parties, had unanimously adopted a resolution that opposes any desire to
declare Gangotri-Uttarkashi stretch as 'Eco Sensitive' zone. But the country is
now reeling from the disastrous effects of the whole, which is not yet known,
Uttarakhand are facing tough questions over his choice and maybe rethink your
priorities.
